“This is a project we’ve been working on for several years now,” CEO Shaun Donnelly says, “so it is extremely gratifying to see it finally coming to fruition.”

Gladiatrix is based on the novel The Crescent by Las Vegas author Cynthia Vespia. It tells the story of two women, one a slave and the other a queen, who become unexpected allies in the Gladiator’s arena. The novel was adapted for the screen by Donnelly himself.

“I had the good fortune to meet Cynthia several years ago and became a fan of her work,” Donnelly says. “I loved that so many of her characters are strong women and that’s exactly the type of stories I wanted to tell through LFC Films.”

Vespia introduced Donnelly to her Godfather, a film producer named Greg Munsell, who, as it turned out, was also a fan of Lingerie Fighting Championships. Munsell had made a death-bed promise to Vespia’s father before he passed that somehow, some way, he’d help turn her first novel into a film. Donnelly and Munsell soon teamed up to fulfill this promise.

“I was so moved by their story and what it meant to everyone that it quickly became an obsession for me as well,” Donnelly says. “We came very close to making the movie in 2020 – we were actually holding auditions that March when Covid shut everything down.”

Raising the money for a movie set in the 3rd Century AD featuring dozens of female gladiators fighting in an arena was no small task and only came about when Donnelly’s long time film distributor, Factory Film Studio, joined the project. Factory’s Chief Creative Officer, Michael Patrick Lilly, was looking for a project they could shoot at their new 10 acre lot (which features a 55,000 sq ft studio) and felt Gladiatrix would be a perfect fit. Construction crews are currently hard at work building all the sets needed for the film including an immense gladiator’s arena.

Of her motivation to write the novel, Vespia says, “I was looking for an idea for my first novel when I came across an article that they had found remains in Rome proving for the first time that women also fought as gladiators. I found the idea so compelling I knew I had to write about it.”

“Naturally with LFC Films involved we were always going to cast some of our fighters,” Donnelly says. “They really are modern day gladiators.”

”50 States” Author Richard R. Becker will visit 11 states in 15 days.

"Third Wheel” is a coming-of-age literary thriller about a misguided teen who struggles to fit in with a pack of older, cooler troublemakers in the suburbs of a desert boomtown. It was a summer reads indie pick by Kirkus Reviews, which calls it, “A dark and skillful teenage crime novel with plenty of heart.” The novel has received six literary awards since its debut last year, and is sometimes described as landing somewhere between “The Outsiders” and “The Catcher in the Rye.”

“50 States” is a collection of short stories that captures the human condition and how perception shapes reality. Together, they provide a character-driven sampling of the American experience over the last 60 years — the kind and the cruel, the heroic and the criminal. The collection has received four literary awards, including best collection, and is frequently listed in the top 100 literary short story collections on Amazon.

Becker’s book tour originally began as a cross-country trip to drop his daughter off at college. She will be attending Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. where she will study art and psychology. She will also play softball for the school.

“While I was planning the trip, I thought visiting bookstores along the way would be fun,” said Becker. “I reached out to a few independent booksellers and their enthusiasm convinced me to turn the trip into a book tour.”

As interest in the book tour grew, several Barnes & Noble stores were added to the list where independent booksellers were unable to accommodate his schedule. Most of the bookstores on the tour include signing events.

“The tour ranges from bookstore visits where I simply sign any copies the store has on stock to author showcases with readings,” said Becker. “Every community and bookstore is unique so I always work to accommodate whatever works best for them.”

Becker recently visited The Book Haven in Prescott, Ariz., as part of a pre-tour signing event in July. He will also sign books at the Las Vegas Book Festival in October.

“I’d still like to add a few more bookstores in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, but the opportunities along Route 66 appear more challenging,” said Becker. So, on my return trip, I may focus on sights instead of signings, with an occasional flash bookstore visit—which means I’ll pop in unannounced at some of the more interesting ones and ask the owners if they might carry the title.”

Either way, Becker will chronicle the entire trip in real-time, sharing elements of his trip across several social networks. He said it is important to support brick-and-mortar bookstores, especially independent and Barnes & Noble stores willing to support small publishers and indie authors.

“Like libraries, brick-and-mortar bookstores are the backbone of a community,” said Becker. Working with indie authors and small publishers like myself creates the kind of environment that keeps customers coming in the doors. I’ve met some amazing people along the way.”

Becker used to line up bookstore visits during his daughter’s travel softball trips and college visits. The effort landed signed copies of his books in stores that may have never carried them otherwise, including Adventures Underground in Richland, Wash.; Boo Maze in Mesa, Ariz.; BookEnds in Kailua, Hawaii; Lion’s Tooth in Milwaukee, Wis.; Renaissance Books in Greendale, Wis.; Poets Bookshop in Dallas; and others.

“Now that she is playing in college, I’ll plan book tours around vacations, research trips, and road trips at the start and end of every school year,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to promote bookstores, given the smallest commitment on their part is the wholesale price of one signed book that they will eventually sell at a retail price.”

When Becker is not writing fiction, he is an accredited business communicator and president of Copywrite, Ink., a 30-year-old strategic communication and writing services firm. He is also a city council-appointed volunteer commissioner on the Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission.

The announcement of this joint venture is a significant milestone in the development of Vietnamese cinema and the economic cooperation between Japan and Vietnam. By 2035, over 50 cinema complexes under the Aeon Beta Cinema brand are expected to be built with an investment of several tens of billions of Yen ($200 Million USD). The first Aeon Beta Cinema is expected to open in 2025.

The joint venture also aims to make a strong entry into film production and distribution. According to the agreement, film production and distribution projects will be carried out under the Aeon Beta brand, promising to deliver high-quality films rich in artistic and entertainment value to the audience.

Founded in 2014, Beta Media is part of the Beta Group ecosystem established by Mr. Minh Bui (Shark Minh Beta). In just under a decade, JDSCA has gone from a small self-funded dream of the founders to a successful, thriving nonprofit. During these 10 years, the organization has provided an inclusive and encouraging community for mainstream and special needs, including youth, teens, and adults. Under the direction of Founder Diane Strand and Co-Founder Scott Strand, JDSCA provides its clients, students, and participants with creative enrichment, hands-on training, and engaging visual, performing, and digital arts education through its classes, events, and programs.

JDS Creative Academy was founded in 2014 by Diane and Scott Strand who recognized the region’s need for creative arts-based programs that provided a pathway to workforce development. During the nonprofit’s early years, it launched extracurricular classes and summer camp programs that met California K-12 VAPA education code requirements in backstage production, fashion design, scriptwriting, acting, and photography. In 2016 JDS Creative Academy introduced its Design, Build, Haunt program. In this class, the participants learn designing, set building, special effects makeup, and acting leading up to a great Haunted Studio fundraiser where they become the haunters. This beloved annual event is open to the public and helps raise money for the nonprofit.

In 2017, JDSCA launched its acclaimed digital media festival, DigiFest^® Temecula. This filled the void of the Temecula Valley Film and Music Festival. Also in 2017, their apprenticeship curriculum was approved by the State of California.

Then in May 2018, they launched a Title-17 video production job-training program that serves as a workforce development pathway for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Five months later, in October 2018, JDSCA released Riverside County’s first-of-its-kind magazine-style local news and information TV show, now known as, Spirit of Innovation: Arts Across America. The show now broadcasts locally and nationwide. In 2022, JDS Creative Academy was honored with being named Emerald Nonprofit of the Year by the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce for its work in 2021.

Come celebrate a decade of innovation and creativity! The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the ribbon cutting featuring the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce commencing at 1:30 p.m., followed by JDS Creative Academy’s party and reception. Those experiences deeply influenced her storytelling and helped Dickerson write a script she believes many will be able to relate to.

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the large crowd at ESCAL in Betschdorf will also compete against participants worldwide. The competition will adopt a hybrid format, integrating Masters of Trivia’s platform, allowing over 250,000 registered users globally to join in the fun.

EVENT SCHEDULE The event will be held on the weekend of January 18 and 19, 2025 at ESCAL, 12 Rue du Bannholz, 67660 Betschdorf, France. Over 2500 visitors and 300 competitors are expected.

Doors at the ESCAL in Betschdorf will open at 8am on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The event will kick off with a grand opening ceremony at 9:30 AM, followed by a series of quiz competitions throughout the day. The Lithuanian Olympic Men’s Basketball Team showed up on the medal platform, wearing the way-out Skullman^® tie-dyed basketball uniforms after clinching the bronze medal in the basketball competition at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. They wowed the world, and it turned out to be something that was never before seen in the world of Olympic sports uniforms fashion.

The Slammin' Skeleton Lithuanian Basketball uniforms were created by NYC apparel brand designer Greg Speirs for the team to have something fun to wear during the Olympics practice before the actual Olympic Games. Wearing the "Skullman Tie Dyes" energized and inspired the team. The reaction from the international Olympics audience was overwhelming.

The players wore the shirts wherever they went after that. According to news reports, among the various donations the team received the Grateful Dead came into the story with a separate $5,000. donation of their own to Marciulionis, which was the part they played in this story.

Rail, directed by the award-winning Bhaskar Sakthi, is a compelling story rooted in Tamil, a South Indian village. S. J. Jananiy created five original soundtracks for the film, collaborating with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra to record the strings ensemble for the background score, and the soundtracks, adding depth and emotion to the music.

Each track spans various genres, including a Tamil folklore melody, an Indian classical melody, and an emotional song sung by the iconic music director and singer "Thenisai Thendral" Deva. The soundtrack also features a peppy folk-based song by Anthony Dasan, and three songs performed by Jananiy herself. One song in particular has proven deeply moving for audiences, and that is "Elay Sevathavane” (the Oppaari Song), a traditional folk song performed during death ceremonies; a poignant string ensemble was utilized in the film version.

Dylan Medler car

Dylan Medler competed in the Ferrari Challenge Europe Championship at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France this weekend.

Medler showed excellent form finishing the Saturday race in 7th place and the Sunday race in 5th place, right behind Formula 1 driver Timo Glock. During both races Medler matched the race pace of the top European drivers.

Both Saturday and Sunday races were won by Italian Ferrari race car driver Giacomo Altoe.

Medler said after the race: “I love racing in Europe and competing against some of the best drivers in the world. It is an awesome experience, and I am learning a lot.

“I could not have done this without my team: they have done a great job improving the car throughout the weekend and we were picking up more and more speed. The 296 Challenge Car is a great car to race, and we are constantly learning more about how to get the most out of it. The European race car drivers have more experience racing on the great tracks of Europe, but we are quickly closing the gap.”

Medler is being coached by Italian race car drivers Alessandro Balzan and Paulo Ruberti who compete for Ferrari at the very top level of GT racing and bring a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to the team.

Orlam Sonora, Motorsports Manager of The Collection – Ferrari of Miami, said after the weekend: “Dylan was driving the entire weekend like a champ. He was matching the race pace of some of the best sports car drivers in the world and demonstrated tremendous race craft and skill thought the weekend.

“Finishing in 5th place on Sunday, right behind F1 driver Timo Glock was a great experience for the entire team. Although Dylan is focusing this year on winning the North America Championship, racing in Europe is great practice for him and takes his skills to another level.”

The Hurt Locker follows an American EOD team into combat during the Iraq War. Led by risk-taking Staff Sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner), this 3-man explosive ordnance disposal team is called in to diffuse various threats – from a wire in the sand, to a car parked illegally, to a kneeling man wrapped in a locked vest – any one of which might lead to injury or death.

Shot on handheld cameras in a mock documentary style, The Hurt Locker eventually received nine Oscar nominations, winning six at the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, and Best Achievement in Sound Editing. (The remaining nominations were for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Music – Original Score.)

The first public screening of The Hurt Locker was on September 4, 2008, at the Venice Film Festival, after which it was screened at various international venues in Argentina, Canada, Norway, and Poland. So, The Hurt Locker was a contender for the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards (although not the Academy Awards which have different eligibility requirements). How many Spirit Award nominations did The Hurt Locker receive on December 2, 2008? Two, one of which was for Best Male Lead Actor and the other for Best Male Supporting Actor. And how many Spirit Awards did The Hurt Locker win on February 21, 2009? Zero.
What accounts for this dramatic change between December 2, 2008 (when the 2009 Spirit Award nominees were announced) and February 2, 2010 (when the 2010 Academy Award nominees were announced)?

For one thing, Barack Obama became the President of the United States of America on January 20, 2009, so the American public’s perception of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began to change during Obama’s first year in office. Maybe that was enough to push The Hurt Locker to the top?

In fact, women like Huttner stepped up. Huttner, a longtime feminist activist and film critic, was one of the women who immediately began demanding recognition for Bigelow’s work. She wrote articles specifically challenging women to see The Hurt Locker – invoking comedienne Joan Rivers’ famous challenge “Can We Talk?” – and she organized screenings for women which ended with robust Q&A sessions, all in an effort to push The Hurt Locker past the $100 million mark in domestic box office revenue. Meanwhile, several male colleagues, and even some women in her audiences, accused her of supporting The Hurt Locker “just because it was made by a woman,” ignoring all the times she had been critical of other female-helmed projects.

Huttner says everything was touch and go until January 30, 2010, when, after 61 consecutive ceremonies, Bigelow became the first woman named Best Director at the 62nd Directors Guild of America Awards. But the tension was palpable when Barbra Streisand – who had not been nominated for her film Yentl even after having won the Golden Globe – took the stage at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on March 7, 2010 to read the list of Best Director nominees. And Streisand’s joy as she read out the name “Kathryn Bigelow” unleashed a wave of emotions in all women directors, most women film critics, and many women watching at home.

According to Huttner, Oscar campaigns are structurally similar in many ways to American political campaigns (although most viewers are oblivious because they’re not voters). “Oscars don’t just happen. People have to work really hard for attention, and that takes time, energy, and commitment. Without momentum, distributors won’t make the financial investments required to win."

Ironically, this 15th anniversary of the release of The Hurt Locker comes just as a major political party is about to nominate a woman for President of the United States for only the second time in our history. Suffice it to say, this was not something anyone predicated on New Years Day of 2024. Let The Hurt Locker story – from surprise, to mobilization, to success – point the way; if women mobilize in 2024 like they did in 2010, then maybe, once again, one woman will go where no woman has gone before, and then another ceiling will have been shattered forever.
